Meet Matthew
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) helping individuals navigate trauma, relationship challenges, and spiritual questions
I’ve been meeting with people for years to help them explore, grow, and overcome challenges from their past and present. I earned an M.A. in Psychotherapy from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Ph.D. in Theology and Neuropsychology from St. Michael’s College at the University of Toronto where I studied affective neuroscience, attachment, and personal development. I also have a second M.A. where I studied object relations and family systems perspectives as part of a multi-disciplinary degree.
From time to time, I’ve taught and lectured at numerous universities around North America on emotion, relationships, neuroscience, and spirituality.
I’m based in Hamilton but am happy to work with anyone in Ontario and British Columbia via secure video conferencing.

Treatment Approach
My approach to psychotherapy is holistic, relational, and empathic. I utilize principles of interpersonal neurobiology and object relations as a foundation, but I can integrate aspects of CBT and other modalities when the situation calls for it. The goal is for us to explore together how your past experiences and relationships have shaped your life and current struggles.
I also trained in ITATMâ„¢ trauma processing and can utilize memory reconsolidation techniques for dealing with cPTSD and other kinds of trauma.
What to Expect in Therapy
We work together to determine what works best for you – how quickly to approach the issues you’re working with and their roots and the tenor that our time together should take.
You may find sessions thoughtful or sometimes filled with feeling, but my task is to stay with you throughout, listening, helping you explore, sometimes challenging a bit, but always without judgement. I want you to know – at a deep level – that care is present and that you’re supported.

Take a step towards healing.
